Nice to see I'm not the only one who was this way with Gravity Falls. I did get in to it while it was airing... its second season. But during the first season and the inter-season hiatus, what little I saw of it in like reaction images or memes gave me the impression that it was some sort of poor man's Regular Show, and from what I had seen of Regular Show at the time (though now that show's on my backlog) I wasn't hooked on that either. Before seeing it I had no idea it was even serial. I happened to wind up seeing "Sock Opera" first (minus the first few minutes) as it originally aired and got hooked, although I regret having everything up to that spoiled to me outright. For a long while I was trying to fish up all the past episodes and saw Season 1 completely out of order, mixed in with Season 2's first three episodes. Now though I feel I can say it's one of my favorite works of all time.

On the flip side in a weird way I'm kinda glad I held off on Avatar: The Last Airbender until I was an adult. I was near-unpleasable around the time it first aired, and had a bad habit of looking for stuff to complain about in serial works (I was really bad with this regarding Naruto), so I might have just brushed it off for some petty reason and have to come to terms years later that it's not bad. (I partly credit Gravity Falls for humbling me in that regard.) It's nicer to appreciate it as I watch instead of in retrospect. Although I did have energybending spoiled to me, but that was the sort of thing I'd have wanted to know about in advance anyway.

[up] I, too, also didn't get into Gravity Falls until Disney+ in early 2020. I binged the whole show (including the shorts).

My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. Ironically, it was the Dethroning Moment page that encouraged me to give it a shot.

Once I went to the cinema with someone, and had to pick between Quantum of Solace and The Baader Meinhof Complex. I saw a painfully mediocre Bond film that day. I saw BMC on dvd later, and honestly, would have rather seen that on the big screen than Daniel Craig looking serious in a desert.

I just thought of a couple examples from PBS Kids, which is really saying something since I watched that block frequently as a kid.

When Boohbah first premiered, I found the theme song so long and repetitive that I stopped watching the show, although I'm now sure that I Gave Up Too Soon. I refused to watch it until I started seeing the end of the show (I would come in during the Storypeople segment, I think) before I went to school. During this era, I remember saying "no theme song", meaning that I still didn't want to watch the opening. Because of this, I didn't learn the individual names of the title characters until I saw them in a magazine.

I'm not entirely sure why I didn't watch Maya & Miguel, but I think it started when I first saw the opening funding credits. You see, I somehow misheard the last syllable of the title as "girl". This made me think of someone exclaiming "A girl!", which I associated with typical boys not wanting to hang out with girls. Since I was not that kind of boy, this gave me a bad impression of the show. Later, I discovered some of the segments at the end of the show (not including WordGirl) as well as the bilingual promos for Chuck E. Cheese's, but I still didn't watch the show itself for some reason. I only ever watched a full episode on TV once, but that time wasn't even on my childhood PBS station.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars for obvious reasons.

I tossed it aside despite people’s praise, perceiving them as idiots. I was really impressed by Polygon Pictures’ work on Transformers: Prime so I checked out other shows on their resume. Granted, they didn’t work on the Clone Wars until a few seasons in but my motivation was there and I caved in.

I was floored by how well it adapted the lore and characters of the “worst movies ever” and made it all likeable. It’s even good in its own right.

I remember not thinking much of my mom's CD copy of Collective Soul's Greatest Hits Album until she told me that "Shine" was popular in The '90s. Before that, I think I was in a funk where I was thinking along the lines of, "I want to listen to the kind of rock music my dad listens to on the radio, but if my mom doesn't want me to enjoy a song because of the lyrics, I'll have to pretend I never heard it and not let it influence my creativity in any way." That funk was totally uncalled for, especially the part where I thought of my mom's music library, which she shared with me, as some sort of inferior product.

It looks like I'll have to double-post here because of the following list:

These are the movies I probably would have seen in theatres in 2013 if I wasn't in my edgelord phase at the time. I think the phase might have been kickstarted after I saw Rise of the Guardians. You see, after the movie, I think it was my dad's friend who complimented it as a neat "concept for kids". I took that the wrong way; I didn't want people to think my sources of entertainment were kiddie stuff! After all, I had just turned 14 and I wanted to start watching those forbidden yellow people! During this edgelord phase, I thought that shows aired by Teletoon and Cartoon Network were more mature than mainstream animated movies.
